Cycle was founded in 2018...
at the University of Miami in our freshman dorm. The initial intent of this venture was to create an activation to increase recycling rates on our campus. After presenting at several business competitions, we decided to pursue the project further and became a corporation. Our broadened goal was to increase recycling rates by incentivizing sustainability and teaching consumers that empty beverage containers can be seen as a commodity and not trash. As the Chief Design Officer, I had control over all of the design and innovation aspects of the company. From the beginning, we knew that we wanted Cycle to be a platform for people to maximize and share their green impact in their local communities. This idea dictated decisions that shaped our branding, marketing, and mobile application. We continue to work hard to create our success story.
Joining the team in the Spring of 2019, I was on-boarded as a digital marketing specialist. For a few months, I helped the company grow their social media presence. I inherited the social media accounts when they were in their infancy, only garnering one hundred impressions per post on both LinkedIn and Instagram. Three months after my employment, we had over 1,800 organic Instagram followers and over 450 LinkedIn followers. Our posts were receiving tens of thousands of impressions and our Cycle brand had taken off in the Miami community. The Miami Herald had written news articles about our startup and we were featured in a live interview “Cafecito Talk” with popular Miami mayor, Francis Suarez. I was promoted to Chief Design Officer and tasked with the role of designing the second iteration of our mobile application. I created this 3-dimensional video for the launch of Cycle 2.0 in the Fall of 2020.
